Problema tratatã în numãrul de faþã reprezintã una din cele mai provocatoare dileme ale Uniunii Europene. Apariþia unui super stat european ar presupune sfârºitul epocii moderne. În noua epocã postmodernã, statul naþiune era menit sã disparã încet-încet pe seama cosmopolitanismului în ascensiune, a prevalenþei legislaþiei internaþionale în faþa celei naþionale, a problemelor globale ce pun în umbrã micile interese locale.

Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin wall, Eastern and Central Europe has traveled the full cycle: from the greatest success to the greatest liability. How sustainable is the success of Eastern European countries? What explains their uneven performance during the transition and integration years? Is “catching-up” to remain only a distant dream, after the economic crisis? Are the lines dividing the region to become permanent? We invite papers which address these issues in a historical and comparative manner.
