This paper aims to analyze the level of trust in political institutional in countries from Central and Eastern Europe: Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Additionally, the paper aims to identify whether there are specifi c differences between the level of trust in traditional institutions (The Church) and the level of trust in the modern institutions (Parliament, Government, Political Parties, European Union, and NATO). The research hypotesis tested is that states enjoying some prior democratic experience and did not belong to the Soviet Union are more likely to register a higher level of political trust than the states without any democratic experience and with a closer link to the USSR.
